Men, woman and children wore these Southern patriotic rosettes during the Civil War to show support for secession. This beautiful cockades is based on 1860s original cockades.
Satin ribbon, reproduction Confederate military button, hand-sewn onto buckram. Approximately 2" (5 cm) across rosette. Pin on back is silver-plated and 1" (2.5 cm) wide.
Secession Cockades were worn in the 1860s by anyone who sympathized with the southern cause. Since they were initiated in South Carolina, they were often blue like the South Carolina flag.

"A gentleman of this city, now travelling in Mississippi, says the Nashville Gazette, writes back to a friend as follows: The further down I get, the more secession I see. Not content with wearing the blue cockade themselves, the people put them up on wagons, carriages, riding horses, etc. At one place where I stopped, all the negroes had them on.
