The John Stark flag—historically known as the Green Mountain Boys flag—is a legendary American Revolution standard. It features a green field with a light blue canton in the upper corner containing 13 white stars. General John Stark famously carried it during the pivotal Battle of Bennington in 1777.
Tradition suggests the flag was carried by the Green Mountain Boys militia and may have even been sewn by Stark's wife, Molly. Fragments of the original silk flag carried by Stark have survived and are preserved at the Bennington Museum in Vermont. General Stark is famous for his rallying cry before the Battle of Bennington: "We'll beat them before night, or Molly Stark will be a widow!" Today, the Stark Flag serves as the official regimental flag for the Vermont National Guard.
